I did something two weeks ago that I tell people to do all the time. We had a family photo session. Yes, I have 3 million photos of my kids. Yes, I have my camera with me at all times. Yes, I wish I was skinnier. But I find it very important to be in pictures with my family and see our family as a unit. I read a study once that children who have a family portrait hanging in the house are more likely to succeed in school because they have a better self esteem due to a sense of belonging in the world. So I found Carole Lynn Photography and hired her for a session in Gurnee.
It was extremely interesting to be on the other side of the lens. I spent a month finding a dress that I did not hate and went back and forth about what everyone was going to wear. The morning of the shoot I woke up to a son with allergy shiners, a daughter with the sniffles and her hand permanently located in her mouth (teething) and a hope that somehow we would pull it all together by the evening. The weather for the evening did not look good with a 53% chance of rain during the shoot. The shoot was in Gurnee so I had to pray that my husband got out of work on time and the rush hour traffic was not horrible. I was stressed.
So I know what it feels like to show up at your shoot annoyed with everything and just wanting it to be crossed off the to do list. But I got there and had fun with my kids and husband. We got eaten alive by mosquitos and almost fell in the creek a dozen times but it was fun and memorable and an experience that we will not forget. It has now become part of our family story and I LOVE the pictures of that experience.
Now to find a creek to hold sessions at so I can fall into the creek and you can all laugh with me.
